First Couple Days

So I have always wanted to do a study abroad program and learn how it would feel to live in a different country...it would help me decide if I would ever want to really live out of the U.S once and for all. SO, now I am in Ireland for the semester and we will see how that plays out!
In the Chicago airport I somehow met up with a girl who was going to the same school I was so we spent the six hours talking and trying to find where our plane would leave from. It was nice to meet someone already and we could help each other around the airport because it was a difficult one. We had to take a train from where we were to a whole other airport building. Then, about 5 minutes before we boarded it turned out she was leaving at the same time but she had a different flight number so she was in a completely different part of the airport...I saw her later though and she luckily just barley made her plane. The plane ride was awful. Couldn't sleep for the life of me...the movie options were boring and the guy next to me was weird. When we were finally flying into Dublin, it was 8 am on Tuesday and I had been awake sense 6 am on Monday. It was still dark outside and I could only see us flying straight down into the ocean! Just then there was a little island green as could be. Just as I was flying in, this song I had never heard before came on my ipod an dit was called "the galway girl" and talked all about the girls in Galway so that was weird but cool.
When we finally got everything finished with immigration, I hopped on a bus that took me straight to Galway (a 4 hour bus ride). The little towns I saw along the way were so cute and the interesting thing about Ireland is that the sun looks like it would in kansas or colorado at about 5 o clock, but it is like that from 11:30 to 5 in Ireland. There were green meadows and sheep and horses it was very picturesk. Just like all the pictures you see but can't really elieve to be true. The weather was very cold but not rainy and it didn't rain until yesterday january 9th. I took a taxi to Gort Na Coribe where I was shown my house. It is a three story apartment. I am the only one in the house who has a roommate. I have met three of my housemates so far and will meet the other two today. I am living with 4 girls and one guy. The guy was the first to arrive and so he talked with me a bit and seems very nice. When I first walked into the apartment there was confetti everywhere, it smelled like smoke (two of the housemates smoke inside in our living room) and there were dirty dishes everywhere. As i walked up to my room (the very top floor) there was a tampon applicator on the floor (gross!) so I figured these were some major partiers. So the first thing I did was take a shower because the BCA people were meeting for dinner in an hour...The house is FREEZING cold I figured out how to use the shower fairly easily, there were weird noises and motors sounding but that is normal. You can adjust the water pressure on these showers as well very weird. almost slipped and definitely froze in the bathroom and on the bathroom tiles. My room however was warm which was amazing. SO, I used an adapter and tried plugging my hair blowdryer into it, and POP there was a mini explosion in my hand! There was a big electrical burst and then my hand were all black and non of the plugs worked after that....I had to get an electrician to come. hahahaha. So i have been afraid until now to plug anything into the walls. SO I dryed my hair under the heater for the bathroom. That took awhile.
Then I met up with everyone from BCA. There were 11 people and only two guys in the program. All but three were from the same school in E-town. we went out to dinner on BCA and I ate mussels and salmon and a glass of wine came with it. Now, I hadn't slept sense 6am monday and I hadn't eaten all day so that one glass of wine made me super tipsy it was really weird. We walked around Galway for a little bit and everyone got a cell phone ( I had to cave in too but I held off for a couple days). Galway is very beautiful and much larger than I thought it would be. The x-mas lights are stilll up in the major square which is called something like Auyer square and it is really gorgeous. Was so tired went to bed at 10...couldn't stay up anymore.
